The Man of Steel #1 (1986)

The comicbook mini-series that changed what we knew about Superman without destroying what made the character great.  When comic writer and artist John Byrne was tasked with re-vamping Superman for a new generation, he delved into making him more of a superman than a superman.  Working together with legendary DC Comics artist Dick Giordano as inker, Byrne told the tale of baby Kal-El who was never truly “born” on Krypton… how Krypton was a sterile world without love… and how truly influential the Kent’s were to Clark’s upbringing.

If you haven’t read this mini-series yet, please find every way possible to do so.  It’s a great read.

Here is the special collector’s edition variant cover.
