In 1996, Warner Bros. released this full-length animated feature called Superman: The Last Son of Krypton on home video. This VHS tape, in its plastic “clam shell” case, contains the pilot episode to Superman: The Animated Series which was a spinoff to the extremely popular Batman: The Animated Series by Bruce Timm.
After an interesting take on the hero’s origin, the story then introduces the megalomaniacal businessman named Lex Luthor who is showcasing his new Lexo-Skel suit of armor which is suddenly stolen by terrorists. It is later discovered that the suit’s theft was orchestrated by Luthor. Lois Lane is soon captured and nearly killed by John Corben (who goes on later to be known as Metallo) before Superman saves her.
The script was written by Paul Dini and Alan Burnett and stars Tim Daly as Clark Kent/Superman, Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor, Christopher McDonald as Jor-El, Malcolm McDowell as Metallo, Corey Burton as Brainiac, Mike Farrell as Jonathan Kent, Shelley Fabares as Martha Kent, Dana Delaney as Lois Lane, Kelly Schmidt as Lana Lang, David Kaufman as Jimmy Olsen, George Dzudza as Perry White, and Lauren Tom as Angela Chen.
