The 1980 motion picture Superman II, starring Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent / Superman, was released on home video. This is the VHS release of the movie that was sold in 1987 by Warner Home Video, the same year as my copy of the home video release of Superman III and the theatrical release of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.
Yes! I have this movie on VHS too, but I think mine was released in the 90s. Which version do you like better? The Richard Lester version or the Richard Donner cut?

Hmm. Good question. Knowing which scenes were re-shot and added by Lester, like the dreaded cellophane ʻSʻ logo among many, I thought he didn’t quite understand the character enough and focused too much on comedy. I guess I favor the Donner version, but wish they could have thrown more money at it to really make it truly amazing. You?

That cellophane “S” was movie making at its finest. I prefer Donner too, but am glad we get two Superman II movies. I won’t complain about getting more of Christopher Reeve as Superman.

Yes, more Reeve is fine by me.

In many ways it hasn’t aged well, but it’s still the best Superman movie to date in my opinion (or at least tied with the Richard Donner cut).

I do like the film as well, though I favor Superman: The Movie. The Richard Donner cut is great, I just wish they gave him more money for the effects.

The best version of Superman 2 would probably be somewhere between the theatrical cut and the Richard Donner cut. Just with more complete special effects.
