By now, you’ve all seen the very first Superman comicbook I ever owned. The cover art was simply amazing to me. As time passed I learned who the amazing artist was… Nick Cardy. Known for his fantastic work on titles like Action Comics, Bat Lash, Teen Titans, Aquaman, The Flash, World’s Finest, and many movie posters, Cardy brought his impeccable use of perspective to the cover I still love so much.
Continuing my 50 Years of Fandom celebration… here it is… the comic that started it all.
Superman #257 cover dated October 1972. This is the very copy that made me the fan I am today. This comic was given to me by my father when I was a mere four years old. As a child, I just could not stop reading it. The boldness and perspective of the cover art by Nick Cardy… the flying Superman above the masthead by Neal Adams… its colors… spoke volumes to me then… and it still does today.
Brian Michael Bendis was given the reigns to Superman in 2018 and came up with a new series of Superman issues. The Man of Steel, a series previously done by John Byrne in the 1980s, begins with a look at Superman doing a deed that has long been overdue… helping put out a high-rise fire and saving a little girl and her two puppies in the process.
This is a copy of Showcase Presents: Superman Family volume 3 a fantastic compilation book of comic book stories from select issues of Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen and Superman’s Girl Friend, Lois Lane from 1959 to 1960. This book contains a whopping 518 pages with unforgettable stories and artwork from some of the most legendary writers and artists.
It’s been some time since I added another collectible from this line. Here is the Kenner Hunter-Prey Superman and Doomsday figure set and was part of their Superman: Man of Steel line of toys. This set is from the Superman ⁄ Doomsday: Hunter ⁄ Prey comic storyline.
Here is a copy of Stålmannen #1 from Sweden. In the 1970s, DC Comics authorized Williams Förlags AB in Sweden to publish reprints of its titles. This issue is mainly a reprint of Superman number 255 and features the same, bold artwork of the legendary Nick Cardy.

The very deep 1993 story within the pages of Adventures of Superman number 500 is titled “Life After Death!” and tells the tale of Johnathan Kent as he suffers a heart attack. After reliving moments of his life, he meets with Clark’s spirit and tries to convince him that it isn’t his time.
This is a copy of Super Powers! number 5 cover dated May 2017. The comic book series, intended for a younger demographic, was illustrated by Art Baltazar. I had the great pleasure of meeting the talented artist at the 2018 Superman Celebration in Metropolis Illinois.
Here is a copy of DC Comics Presents number 51 published in 1982. This copy was signed by the amazing artist Alex Saviuk at the 2018 Superman Celebration in Metropolis Illinois. Mr. Saviuk was a pleasure to meet and had many of his artwork for sale.
