In 1987, Enesco Imports Corporation was granted a license by DC Comics to produce superhero merchandise. This is a Superman vinyl placemat which is approximately twenty-two inches wide and eight-and-a-half inches high featuring the artwork of José Luis García-López against an array of symmetrical yellow zig-zag patterns and three ’S’ symbols. The then only three year old revised Superman title logo (with a rounded ‘U’) is in a prominent position at the top of the placemat.
During Enesco’s 1987 license, they also produced a “My ‘Man of Steel’” ceramic mug and a Superman ceramic bust bank.
I really dig the unique shape. The Lopez art is always a joy too.
